Doc Watson "The Car Scam Expert"
Featured on "DateLine NBC" and ABC's "20/20"
Houston's own "Tailpipe Tattletale," Doc Watson was recently featured on "DateLine NBC" and in two segments of ABC's "20/20." The subject matter of used car "rip-off" exposure is right down Doc's alley. In fact, Doc was recommended to both networks through the Texas State Attorney General's office. Doc also appeared on the "Gordon Elliott Show," seen nationally on the Fox network.
Doc is a consumer advocate and acts as a car-buying consultant for consumers. He helps individuals locate finance and negotiate the purchase of new and used vehicles. He has personally sold over 10,000 vehicles during the span of his 39 years in the automotive business. Doc conducts workshops and seminars for the public and speaks at many civic luncheons and dinner meetings.
Doc often appears in automotive-related news stories on TV stations. His frequently quoted remarks and insights have appeared in the Houston Chronicle, Houston Post, Houston Business Journal, Stages magazine, Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. He is a popular guest on radio talk shows -- local, regional and national! Recently "On the Road with Doc Watson," a call-in radio show, was aired almost two years on weekends in Texas.
Doc's appeal crosses all cultural, economic and occupational lines in that we all share a common experience and frustration: purchasing a vehicle.
Doc is extremely active in charitable and community projects including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Doc worked twice under the U.S. Secret Service: first during the 1990 Economic Summit as a volunteer coordinator and, secondly, he was responsible for training 3,000 security volunteers during the 1992 Republican Convention. He received a personal award from the U.S. Secret Service for his outstanding efforts.
Doc's book, " Gotcha Sucker: The Confessions of a Car Salesman" and his tape series, "The Car Selling Secrets for Insiders" are both enjoying great success and are often quoted to start exciting call-in talk show discussions.
Having two grown sons and four grandchildren, Doc feels obliged to help others after being blessed with so much.
Currently, Doc's experience and expertise are being successfully utilized as an expert witness in automotive consumer fraud (DTPA) litigation. He has been retained both by plaintiffs and the defense in various states for state and federal suits. Doc has consulted on case merit, review, preparation and discovery. Doc has testified in depositions and trial.
